Drexel Men Earn Three Gold Medals on the Schuylkill

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Drexel men's crew took home victories in the varsity and junior varsity eight races on Saturday at the Frostbite Regatta and in the junior varsity eight competition on Sunday at the Bill Braxton Regatta.
Drexel's junior varsity eight crossed the line 11 seconds ahead of rowing powerhouse, Lehigh, to notch the win in 6:28.16. The junior varsity boat was led by seniors #Michael Sausa# and #Jon Holland#, coxswain #Eden Ginn#, and sophomores #Timothy Bohinski#, #Jon Klenk#, #Joshua Dukeman#, #Michael Gartland#, #Eric Shoyer# and junior #Ryan Dorr#. The Dragon men also dominated the varsity eight race, which was held on the Schuylkill. The varsity crew of #Michael Niles#, #Terry Mascitelli#, #Chris Hillenbrand#, #Austin Barolin#, #Vince Zapisek#, #Mike Krantz#, #Alan Fody#, #Doug Allcorn#, and coxswain #Danielle Bowers#, finished the 2000-meter course in 5:52.86 to take first place. The varsity boat finished ahead of Lehigh, who earned a second-place finish in 5:57.50. The Dragons also beat cross-town rival, La Salle, Loyola and Penn State.
The Dragons used momentum from the Frostbite and returned to the Schuylkill on Sunday for another victory at the Bill Braxton Regatta. The junior varsity eight finished first in 4:25.66, ahead of second place Loyola who crossed the line in 4:30.94. Ithaca, Penn State and Loyola's second boat rounded out the top-five places. The Dragons' varsity eight boat earned a third-place finish Sunday afternoon on the Schuylkill. The crew finished in 4:22.13 behind Temple (4:16.62) and Loyola (4:19.82) to give the Dragons and men's Head Coach #Joe Palmer# their fourth top-finish of the weekend.
The Drexel crew returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 18 when they host the Drexel Crew Triathlon on the Schuylkill.
